Driver Jailed After Killing Cyclist While Using Snapchat Behind Wheel

Investigators looked at Waugh’s phone data, revealing heavy phone use before the crash. Her phone locked ten times, with Instagram open when it locked last, showing frequent social media messages.
Police said Waugh claimed she didn’t see Ian. She suggested he swerved in front of her. Witnesses disagreed, stating Ian rode normally with his reflective gear and that Waugh veered toward him.
Waugh admitted to causing death by dangerous driving. She admitted she used her phone while driving. The court sentenced Waugh on February 7. She received six years and eight months in jail, along with a driving ban of five and a half years, and the requirement to retake her driving test after prison. The ban starts after her release.
